Castaways is an exclusive gated community of 119 single-family homes situated on a scenic bluff overlooking the Upper Newport Bay — one of Southern California's most pristine ecological reserves. The community is nestled between Dover Drive and the Back Bay shoreline, offering residents sweeping views of the water and easy access to miles of nature trails, kayaking, and cycling paths.
The Castaways site has a rich history tied to Newport Beach's waterfront heritage. Prior to development, the land was home to the legendary Castaways Restaurant, a beloved dining destination that opened in 1960 and became famous for its panoramic bay views. The restaurant operated for decades before the property was redeveloped in the late 1990s into the residential community that exists today, carefully preserving the spectacular setting that made the original Castaways a Newport Beach landmark.
The residential development was completed in phases through the early 2000s, with homes designed in a classic coastal architectural style that blends harmoniously with the natural bluff landscape. The community features wide tree-lined streets including Cape Andover, Castaways North, Cape Danbury, and Cape Woodbury, all within the security of a staffed gated entrance.
